Makeover Mania: Taking on the Bedroom

Should wallpaper be used only on the walls? Can you make a canopy bed even if you don’t have a four- poster bed? Just how much of a difference can a well-dressed window make to your bedroom? Answers to unusual questions for an innovative bedroom makeover.

Use wallpaper differently

For a complete facelift, an easy solution is wallpaper. To add an illusion of height or width in your room, use vertical striped or horizontal striped wallpaper. If you do not want to paper an entire room, choose a nice wall paper, paste a roll or two behind your bed and make a head-turning headboard at almost no cost. Alternately, you can use wallpaper on your shelving or stick it on any old piece of furniture to give it an instant transformation.

Canopied and cozy

Give your bed a romantic makeover by making a canopy bed out of it. All you need to do is hang some curtains around your bed. Apartment therapy describes 10 ways to get the canopy bed without buying a new bed. They recommend variations like using a headboard ceiling mount or using a single hoop in centre. If you want to block out the light, use curtains in white or beige, but if adding a cozy touch is your idea, go for sheer curtains that let the light in but provide privacy.

Smart window treatment

Make a small room feel bigger by dressing up your window from floor to ceiling. Choose curtain rods and finials that match the overall look. Add personality to your window by using ivory, crystal, wood or metal finials. For draperies, use a combination of sheer and opaque drapery lining to bring the light in when you want it or block it when you don’t. There is a wide variety of curtains available in floral and other patterns as well as in various textures. Check our online collection to find the curtains to match your room.

The distressed look

Give your furniture a weathered and worn look. If you have some old furniture which you are looking to give away, don’t!  All you need to do is distress it a bit more and convert it into an art piece instead. You can easily distress furniture at home using sandpaper or steel wool. It may not come out perfect the first time, but you can easily repaint it and distress it again, till you get that perfect weathered look.

Burst of colour

Colours have an astounding effect on our senses. Add pops of colours in your bedroom with a careful selection of accent pieces and bed furnishing.  You can choose to pick any theme like floral, stripes, kitsch or solids. Just add matching pillows and bed spread and your get a room you would love to wake up in.
